Ventura College SITE 2012 Dr. Michael Ward and Jenchi Wu

This year's SITE - Summer Institute Teaching Excellence - is happening this week at Ventura College. Dr. Ward and I teamed up yesterday for an amazing class collaboration on World History and Ceramics. Here are some of the highlights of our workshop.

Ventura College Clay Project

Our Beginning Sculpture clay project results are finally here. Students were asked to sculpt their own portrait using clay. Students went through the process of making the face, hollowing out the portraits, and put them together for drying and firing. Students then stained the sculpture with an umber color. The final results look AMAZING!

Ventura College Beginning Sculpture Installation Projects

For this semester's Group Installation Projects students were very focused on how budget cuts were affecting their education at school.  They all did a wonderful job on the assignment. Good job everyone!!

Stephanie Gonzalez, Breaden Ayub and Martin Delgado were using color pastel in a dry out fountain to reflect their opinion.

Sean Chieze, Sam Dutter, Isy Morones, and Justin Martinez were also focused on the budget but emphasized the direct impact it had on the student body.

Pat Kuhn, Alejandro Paz, Billie-Jean Varela and Eremlinda Bendy talked about bullying in our society. They used signs to guide the viewers to their wall mural with a positive phrase.
